New Year’s Day 2024 greeted us with snow! A light dusting… just enough to look pretty! It was all gone by afternoon, only a bit remaining on the pines on the mountainside. Mist still hangs at the top of the mountain. The skies are grey-white and a few stray snowflakes drift lazily down. We have a holiday today, so it is the perfect day to sit by the fire and sip hot chocolate with whipped cream.

The chief dairymaid left yesterday evening for a New Year’s Eve mystery supper with friends, so the cows were milked by a substitute. Luckily, they were in a mellow mood and made no trouble. A week ago, we had a jailbreak from the to-be-milked pen at milking time, led by no other than our own Hunter Jumper. Fresh air and green grass is so much better than hay, even if we have to stand outside in a drizzle! They are out on the hillside again today, never minding the snowflakes.
