Spring seems slow in coming this year. Grass is slowly greening and will soon be growing in leaps and bounds, but for now everything moves slowly. Buds are seen on trees, the forsythia will soon break into bloom, and the crocuses are already there.

We all yearn for springtime! Farmer girl can't remember what trees look like with leaves. For months she has seen only bare trees: well, the pines are green, and last year's red leaves still decorate the smaller oaks. Spring... spring... spring... the season of green grass!

"I can't even remember what green grass tastes like" Heidi complained to her compatriots. She had had a couple blades this March, yes, but just a taste, really, and it was such a delicate taste, too, so wonderful! but she had forgotten already, she forgot so easily.....

"When are you going to give us fresh grass?" Mandie asked, sticking her nose into farmer girl's face and whooshing heavily. "Huh? When? Huh?"

Mandie has been asking that question daily for a whole long month, if not longer. Farmer girl thinks it was longer.

"Oh, go on!" said farmer girl, whooshing back at her. Mandie responded to that by sticking out her long pink tongue and swiping that girl in the face.

March has been dry so far, but soon it will change.... the rains will come and warm weather, and that grass will be outa here.

Farmer girl can't wait!

And neither can those cows!
